Telangana appeals to steel and cement firms to support Indiramma housing initiative

Hyderabad: State authorities have called upon steel and cement producers to join hands with the Indiramma housing scheme, with a focus on maintaining steady and cost-effective supplies of building materials essential to the programme's success.

A high-level discussion took place at the Secretariat on Thursday between Revenue and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, IT and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu, and representatives from the industrial sector. The meeting centred on supply chain management, pricing consistency and logistical arrangements to ensure construction timelines remain on track.

The ministers framed the Indiramma housing scheme as a comprehensive welfare initiative aimed at delivering adequate housing, social protections and economic assistance to underprivileged households, positioning it beyond a simple construction project.

Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy outlined that the first phase encompasses 4.50 lakh houses sanctioned across Telangana, excluding the city of Hyderabad. He reported that approximately 85 per cent of approved houses have reached the slab stage, with work proceeding on the remaining properties.

Expansion plans underway for next phase

The second phase will see 2.5 lakh additional houses approved, with each Assembly constituency targeted to receive 2,000 units. The CURE jurisdiction will be allocated one lakh houses. Tribal constituencies stand to gain between 1,000 and 1,500 extra houses, with allocations currently being finalised. Further phases will bring additional housing commitments.

Regarding financial support, the minister disclosed that Telangana offers a complete subsidy of ₹5 lakh per dwelling unit. He asserted that the state's commitment to subsidised housing construction surpasses that of any other Indian state.
