Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju Inspects Musi Riverfront Development Project Sites

Hyderabad — Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju conducted a comprehensive field review of the Musi Riverfront Development Project on Thursday, visiting several Phase-I sites across the city. The inspection underscored the importance of integrated implementation, strategic planning and rigorous compliance with ecological safeguards to ensure the project's long-term viability.

The Chief Secretary toured Osmansagar, the Narsingi Sewage Treatment Plant location and the Gandhi Sarovar project grounds. These sites represent critical elements within the state government's broader initiative to restore the Musi River and strengthen urban resilience across Hyderabad.

During the inspection, Jaju engaged in substantive conversations with the Managing Director and Joint Managing Director of MRDCL, the Managing Director of HMWSSB and key personnel from multiple government departments. The discussions centred on flood management strategies, integration of sewage treatment infrastructure, land preparation for development and corridor-wide infrastructure requirements.

Jaju provided strategic guidance aimed at bolstering ecological health and amplifying the project's potential benefits for Hyderabad's urban development. He emphasised that successful coordination across implementing agencies would be essential for delivering meaningful improvements to residents' quality of life.

Separate Master Plan Proposed for Riverfront Corridor

The Chief Secretary recommended that MRDCL and HMDA develop a dedicated master plan covering the stretch between the Musa and Eesa rivers leading to their meeting point at Gandhi Sarovar. According to Jaju, this framework would enhance transportation links while fostering sustainable urban expansion throughout the riverfront zone.

MRDCL is expected to integrate the recommendations emerging from this review into its operational strategy and expedite work on Phase-I development. The implementing agencies will pursue subsequent project phases in accordance with the direction provided during the inspection.
