Kolkata Industrialist Seeks Blessings Before Anticipated Rajya Sabha Entry

Kolkata, July 13, 2026 — Political turmoil continues to roil West Bengal as factional tensions within the Trinamool Congress intensify. Multiple legislators have departed from the party, while several state and national MPs express discontent with former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her nephew Abhishek Banerjee. Kuldip Maity, managing director and chief executive officer of VFS Capital, visited the Vindhyavashini temple complex in Vindhyachal to perform worship and seek blessings before embarking on a new political chapter. During his visit, Maity requested the deity's grace for the welfare and peace of the state, as well as for his public service endeavors.

Following the temple visit, Maity stated: "Service is my commitment. With the blessings of the Mother Goddess, I now wish to play a direct role in the development of Kolkata and West Bengal."

According to sources, Maity is poised to join the Bharatiya Janata Party and secure a seat in the Rajya Sabha in the coming weeks. His induction ceremony may be presided over by a senior party figure, potentially BJP President or Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

A well-regarded figure in the microfinance sector of eastern India, Maity has dedicated the past two decades to advancing financial empowerment for women and economically disadvantaged communities. His visit to the temple drew considerable crowds, with observers noting the enthusiasm displayed by devotees upon his departure with the deity's blessings.

As discussions mount regarding fresh faces joining the BJP following disaffection with the TMC, Maity's name has gained prominence. He holds doctoral credentials alongside two master's degrees in business administration and the social sector. He is expected to announce his action plan on education, healthcare, and youth employment opportunities in the near term. Neither the BJP nor Maity have issued official confirmation of these developments.
