AIIMS Bibinagar Positioned to Emerge as South India's Leading Medical Institution

Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda has affirmed that AIIMS Bibinagar is progressing well toward establishing itself as a premier healthcare destination across South India, with infrastructure development expected to reach completion by December 2026.
During a review of the facility's operational status, Nadda highlighted the rapid growth of the institution, which achieved functionality just four years following its approval in June 2022 under a budgetary allocation of ₹1,110 crore. The facility currently operates with 132 faculty members across nine specialised departments, alongside full emergency capabilities and advanced diagnostic imaging infrastructure including CT and MRI scanners. The institute records approximately 1,800 outpatient consultations on an average day.
Through remote healthcare delivery, the facility has extended its reach to over 1.56 lakh patients via telemedicine services. Nadda reaffirmed the central government's dedication to expanding and upgrading medical infrastructure throughout the nation.
The minister noted that since 2014, the Modi administration has launched 19 additional AIIMS facilities, bringing the total planned network to 23 institutions, of which 18 are currently operational. The government has simultaneously expanded its healthcare infrastructure footprint by establishing 1.85 lakh Ayushman Arogya Mandirs and raising the count of medical colleges from 370 to 820.
AIIMS Bibinagar has demonstrated significant contributions to medical research and community outreach. Faculty members have published 1,156 research papers, while the institute has conducted 547 medical awareness camps benefiting over 66,000 residents in its adopted villages. The facility also established India's first Community Radio Station located on an AIIMS campus.
Nadda acknowledged that world-class medical centres require considerable time to attain comprehensive academic and research standing. Nevertheless, he expressed confidence that AIIMS Bibinagar would establish itself as an exemplary institution delivering excellence in medical education, patient services, and scientific research.
