Canada Extends Invitation to Telangana for Enhanced Economic Partnership

Chris Cooter, Canada's High Commissioner to India, has extended an invitation to Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to lead a state delegation to Canada for strengthening bilateral trade and economic collaboration.

During their meeting at MCR HRD in Hyderabad on Wednesday, Cooter and Revanth Reddy explored pathways to deepen mutual engagement in trade, investment, and innovation. The discussions centred on major development initiatives in the state, particularly the Musi River Development Project, the expansion of Hyderabad Metro Rail, and the proposed Future City scheme.

Cooter underscored Canada's expanding business interests in Telangana, citing Firan Technology Group's plans to set up a manufacturing unit and CIBC's establishment of a Global Capability Centre in the city. He also highlighted CPP Investments' collaboration with Hyderabad-based CtrlS Datacenters, which involves a commitment of up to 1 billion Canadian dollars.

Revanth Reddy presented Telangana's accomplishments across information technology, life sciences, defence, and aerospace sectors. He emphasised Hyderabad's appeal as a hub for Global Capability Centres operated by Fortune 500 companies, and outlined the government's vision for transforming the Musi riverfront into an economic corridor.

The Chief Minister sought Canadian backing for the state's renewable energy initiatives and green economy programmes. He also disclosed that several international universities are planning to launch campuses in Hyderabad, and proposed a collaborative framework for Canadian institutions to establish a shared multi-university facility in the city.

Revanth Reddy extended a formal invitation to Canadian businesses, investors, and educational bodies to participate in the second Telangana Global Investors Summit scheduled for December, positioning it as a platform for fostering investment and long-term commercial partnerships.

Cooter commended Telangana's development strategy and its emphasis on job creation, noting that the state's workforce capabilities present compelling opportunities for Canadian enterprises. The High Commissioner assured continued Canadian engagement across diverse sectors and announced that a Canadian trade delegation would visit Telangana in the coming months to assess collaboration possibilities in energy, urban development, defence, and aerospace.

The meeting was attended by Ex-Officio Special Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao, Invest Telangana CEO B. Ajith Reddy, TGIIC Managing Director Shashanka, ITE&C Joint Secretary Anudeep Durishetty, and Director of Industries Nikhil Chakravarthy.
