NIPS Institute of Hotel and Hospitality Management welcomed a visiting delegation of New Zealand-based hospitality employers to its Kolkata facilities on May 20, 2026, marking a significant step in connecting Indian hospitality students with international employment opportunities.

The visiting group comprised senior representatives from leading hospitality organizations, alongside members of the Vira International team based in London and their counterparts in Auckland. The primary objective centred on identifying candidates for overseas internships and placement positions within the hospitality sector.

The programme included recruitment assessments, orientation sessions, skills evaluations, and one-on-one interviews, enabling students to engage directly with international industry professionals. Participants encompassed students from Culinary Arts, Food & Beverage Service, Front Office Operations, Housekeeping, and hybrid hospitality specializations.

The evaluation framework assessed candidates across multiple dimensions: technical proficiency, interpersonal communication, operational preparedness, workplace conduct, and service excellence standards expected in international hospitality environments.

According to Dr. Vivek Pathak, the institute's leadership, hospitality education has undergone substantial transformation over three decades. "The sector has expanded far beyond conventional hotel operations into aviation, maritime hospitality, tourism, luxury services, and international hospitality networks," he explained. "Our mission at NIPS extends beyond academic instruction to encompassing professional development and personal growth, enabling our graduates to compete effectively on the international stage."

During practical evaluations, culinary students showcased their plating techniques, creative thinking, collaborative abilities, and technical skills under the supervision of Executive Chef Marc. Candidates from service and operations tracks underwent assessment focusing on personal presentation, guest engagement capabilities, self-assurance, verbal communication proficiency, and overall professional demeanour.

The New Zealand programme specifically targets qualified students through a Student and Trainee Work Visa framework. Positions span Culinary Arts, Food & Beverage Service, Front Office, and Housekeeping roles. Selected participants would receive a floor wage of NZD 23.15 hourly while undertaking 40 to 50 weekly working hours. Visa applications operate entirely through digital channels.

Dr. Pathak noted that contemporary hospitality students increasingly prioritize international experience, early career earnings, and worldwide employment pathways, positioning hospitality education as a premier avenue for overseas career advancement.

The visiting delegation commended the students' demonstrated discipline, communication capabilities, confidence levels, hands-on expertise, and professional presentation standards—qualities reflecting the rising global appetite for skilled hospitality professionals from India.

Operating across four campuses in Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, Ranchi, and Shillong, NIPS Hospitality Group maintains its emphasis on industry-aligned curricula, cross-border institutional partnerships, workforce development, and international hospitality standards.
