Hyderabad Eatery Shut Down Following Serious Food Safety Violations

Hyderabad's Cyberabad Municipal Corporation food safety division has sealed a restaurant in Moosapet following the discovery of critical hygiene and food safety violations during a routine inspection.

The inspection of Udupi Upahar revealed a troubling array of sanitary failures. The kitchen had dangerously slippery flooring and drainage systems blocked with accumulated food waste. Inspectors found cooked veg biryani, rice, batter, paneer, manchurian and dough stored improperly in freezers, with storage containers in poor condition. The wash area exhibited substandard hygiene practices.

Pest control concerns were particularly alarming, with officials documenting cockroach infestation and flies present throughout the kitchen. The thawing procedures for frozen items failed to meet food safety standards. During the inspection, food handlers were observed working without required hairnets and masks.

Documentation issues compounded the violations. The establishment could not furnish medical certificates for staff or water quality analysis reports. Most significantly, the restaurant was operating under an expired food licence at the time of inspection.

Inspectors confiscated stale veg biryani and manchurian discovered on the premises. The establishment received a hygiene rating of 40 out of 116 points—well below the 50 percent threshold that triggers formal show-cause notices from authorities.

The Cyberabad CMC has committed to continuing systematic food safety inspections across restaurants and food service outlets in the jurisdiction. Residents are encouraged to report food safety concerns via the MyCURE App or by notifying CMC officials through social media platforms.
