Airbnb Expands Offerings with Travel Services, World Cup Experiences, and Boutique Hotels
Airbnb is rolling out a comprehensive set of new offerings designed to streamline travel planning and execution, marking a significant expansion beyond its core accommodation business.
The platform is introducing multiple service categories to simplify various aspects of travel. Guests can now arrange grocery delivery to their rental homes in partnership with Instacart, with over 25 US cities covered and incentives including free delivery and $10 discounts on orders exceeding $50. Airport transfer services through Welcome Pickups are available across more than 160 cities globally, offering 20% discounts on rides with real-time flight tracking. Luggage storage via Bounce partnership provides access to over 15,000 locations in 175 cities at 15% reduced rates. Car rental integration allows guests to book vehicles directly within the app, with a 20% credit incentive on first-time bookings applied to subsequent stays or experiences.
The expansion reflects data showing that nearly a quarter of Airbnb guests rent vehicles during their stays.
Airbnb is significantly expanding its Experiences category, which currently maintains an average rating of 4.93 out of 5 stars. The platform now offers more than 3,000 landmark-focused experiences globally, capitalizing on research indicating that over 75% of travelers visit landmarks in new destinations. These include guided tours at iconic sites such as the Tower of London, Tokyo Skytree, and Taj Mahal.
Food and culture experiences number over 2,500, featuring partnerships with Chef's Table and Grand Central Market. Offerings range from six-course wine pairings with Michelin-starred chef Gianfranco Pascucci in Rome to cocktail-making sessions at Paris's De Vie bar.
The FIFA World Cup 2026 experiences represent a flagship addition, providing exclusive access across six host cities. These include intimate viewing parties with World Cup Champions Abby Wambach and Julie Foudy in Los Angeles, and training sessions with Argentine football legend Javier Mascherano.
Airbnb is introducing thousands of independently-operated and boutique hotels to its platform, initially launching in 20 premier destinations including New York, Paris, London, Madrid, Rome, and Singapore. Properties are curated for neighborhood positioning, design quality, and hospitality standards, with no major chain hotels included. A price-match guarantee ensures guests receive credit for any lower rates found elsewhere, while bookings at featured properties yield up to 15% credit toward future Airbnb reservations.
The platform is deploying artificial intelligence across its user interface to enhance discovery and planning. AI-generated review summaries synthesize over one billion guest and host reviews to highlight relevant details including location quality, amenities, and family-friendliness. A comparison feature assists users in selecting optimal properties, while shared itinerary functionality enables group trip planning with integrated maps showing nearby dining, activities, and travel times.
A new connections feature allows users to view where friends and family have traveled on Airbnb, access their booking details and reviews, and message contacts for travel recommendations. This feature launches later in summer.
The platform's AI customer support service, now available in 11 languages, is rated as the leading AI support assistant in the travel sector. The system provides trip-specific assistance through interactive chat cards, with voice support capabilities expected later in the year.
According to Brian Chesky, Airbnb's co-founder and CEO, the strategy reflects a philosophy that "travel shouldn't just be convenient. It should be meaningful." He emphasized that the platform aims to provide "incredible places to stay and boutique hotels that feel like Airbnb, to unforgettable World Cup experiences and services that make your trip easier."
Services are rolling out across select countries globally, with some features including car rentals and the redesigned homepage becoming available throughout the summer season.
